On your box, did you dampen the edges of the box somehow so that the top plate either cannot contact the box or so that it is decoupled from the box? Like for example, lining the inside edges with cork or placing Blu-tak around the top edge?If solid materials aren't preferred, as Barry said, would constructing a top layer of alternating materials such as MDF, plywood, cork, and granite tiles make a better top layer? I could still leave the granite tiles out if they are still going to ring; at this point it would be about aesthetics only.
