Well, legitimate audio engineers do two things: (1) They only change one variable at a time and (2) they make measurements with calibrated instruments instead of trusting human hearing as their only deciding methodology. They also work to a target set of performance parameters for the overall speaker (or amp, etc) instead of changing individual components in and out to "just to see what happens". Legitimate engineers don't belong to the "cap/resistor of the month club". This is the diffrence between ditzy "designers" all in a dither because they read something on the web (or in a mag) that sent them off on tangent, and engineers who have the formal training and experience to do professional engineering.
