Ok, now I will suggest something a little better (by reputation)...You want SET info, do step into the DIY tube asylum. Hot glassware a speciality....
Now the current rage is a variant on Lynn Olson's circuit called the aurora - tied to Gary Pimms dutiful CCS circuitry and the finest of Iron, has a SET like midrange, and the bounce of a PP. Very definitely the best of both worlds, by all accounts.
The Macs Iron is good enough (possibly) for OPTs. I would keep the casework, and the remaining circuitry intact, and go for broke. Alternativelt, SEP (like in most small consoles) get you 65+% of the way there, and can usually be acquired for pennies, and would form a good starting point.
The Mac is a good usable classic - I personally would prefer to keep it that way, and build a nice SET to use alongside. You'll soon grow to appreciate both, as they have very different strengths and weaknesses.
So, bottle head, get your gloves on, and whittle some tin.
Have fun!!
Owen
