Jon, keep in mind that the amount of constant modifications I did on the rega during those "tweak until you get it right days" would compromise my opinion of what actually worked best.

However, i recall that on the rega the cans position made the "tuck it around" approach difficult. That is why i looked for other alternatives.

Yes, the putty is "real airy and light, and seemed to compress down to nothing when squeezed hard." Therefore i used as much as possible around the can but did not encapsulate it, leaving the top exposed just a little. (I was concerned with heat disapation).

The PCB was firmly held in place (like all internal rega components) however placing putty between boards could still have a major effect on dampening. Generally with most PCB, "firmly" just means bolted or screwed in four corners. PCB inherited internal vibrations are not damped by general bolting methods.

In retrospect, i might have just got lucky with this mod, however as stated in the original thread, it may have been the combination of mods that led to the amazing sound this player consistently produces.

Also, is it possible that the "break in period" rule applies to these type of mods, as maybe the player "settles in" since the sound has gotten sweeter with more detail over time.
