In Reply to: When you are tweaking, how do you distinguish "AIR" from brightness and hyper detail? posted by Jaybar on September 23, 2000 at 20:38:44:
Two very different issues ..."AIR" : the ability to surround individual instuments and voices with there own space; to be able to hear each instrument individually playing - clearly at all times - not all mixed or blended together esp as volume increases.
"hyper detail" : Generally a negative description - extreme detail that is heard to be at the expense of musicallity; a system that reproduces every little detail but is not engrossing or emotionally reaching the listener. Today many CDP have this description, and nearly all early units did.
This is just not a tweakers issue!
A word of advice. ALL good tweaks or changes in my system have always achieved one constant attribute even if other many other factors of the sound has changed - The music always gets more involving and relaxing, with less fatigue when listening.
