In Reply to: When are you approching good positioning of Symposium Audio Rollerblocks/couplers with their issolation platforms? posted by Jaybar on September 22, 2000 at 21:00:15:
A point, that even I have just realized of late, is that the component we are attempting to "isolate" was voiced by the manufacturer to sound like it does without any "isolation" device sitting under or on top of it at the time of creation. Duh. That is the manufacturer built the unit and voiced it sitting who knows where (test bench) and on whatever in some "reference" system - he/she engineered/designed for these resonances. Therefore anything we do (BDR cones, Symposium, Townshend, Aurios) will make the component resonant and sound different than as supplied. Double Duh. So then, we are now changing or "voicing" the sound to one we either prefer (to varying degrees) or to one we do not prefer (again to varying degrees) and as such may be hearing the component as something completely different than intended - regardless of how minute these sonic differences are.
That is I found some devices to work too good at isolating a component, so much so, that I did not like the sound - sterile and metallic. Substituting another device that has "theorectically" less potential isolation, the component now sounded more musical. At least by mine and a fellow listener's definition or preference of musicality.
Which all points to VanEvers idea that "resonances" can be good. The idea is to tune a component (make that system) by a variety of means.
