One of the true legends of audio

207.218.213.207

My first real high end component, a Superphon Rev 2G was designed by Stan. Later a pair of Superphon Max 80B amps were used in bridged mode to drive Stages. He was designing the PS Audio gear twenty years ago.
He has not lost a step either, he modded my Pioneer PD91 in around 1994. It is still a competitive player.
When someone brought over a tweaked CL-15 that bested my player, I called Stan to see what could be done cheap to hold me over for a year or two. He recommended either getting a Pioneer DVD player and having him mod it, or just putting newer opamps and power supply bypass caps in my PD-91.
After thinking about it for a day or two, I decided the cheapest way
would be best with the digital scene so confusing. The upsamplers and SACD players are all new, and improvements and lower cost cannot be very far down the road.
Already Ric Shultz's new upsampling DAC is announced, the norh CD player looks great, and the SACD players just seem to be getting cheaper. Maybe seeing if Stan or Ric could do something with a SACD player is the current way to the best sound.
I hope that Stan stays involved in helping people with audio. When he retires we will have lost a real gentleman.
