Completed passive L-pad

209.96.217.3

I just finished building a passive ladder stepped attenuator last weekend. I burned it in for a week with an old cdp and a dummy load across the output jacks. Before listening to it this weekend, I was afraid the difference from what I was replacing (McCormack MLD in passive mode) would be subtle. It wasn’t. I won’t be going back to potentiometers again. The added body to instruments and the recording venue was large. The transient speed increased and bass weight and definition both improved. Sinatra gave me goose bumps on a few tracks from “Wee Small Hours”. This was the first time I was able to hear Frank actually felt what he was singing on these tracks. Having the chassis built was the biggest pain in the butt for this project, but I’m glad it is finally done, the sound quality is excellent.
