Hi Gary. The spreadsheet sounds good. Why don't you make it up and then post a link to it here, and put it on a website. You can use my website if you need to.
Actually, building the 12-position switches may be harder than building some kits, as the kits are well thought out and they will have an instruction manual. But, kits always have steps that are not tailored to the individuals system. Make up your own steps using the formula! For example, I'm rebuilding mine and I start with very coarse steps. Mine jumps from -100db up to -40db. Then to -36db, then the steps are -2db each. By doing this, I have room with my 24 position controls to make all my listening positions only 1db steps and have a great volume and balance control. I know my listening positions well, and will keep my amp and speakers a long time. Therefore I can put Caddock MK-132's around the listening position and won't have to worry about changeing them in the future. As for the "20", I don't know. But the formula works great and takes only an hour or two to do the whole control. You may be able save some time by using some of the values from the Goldpoint site. Whats tough is, you will need to adjust the values to the resistor values you can order. Have fun, and I'm glad you liked my humble website! Regards, Greg R.
