Running with straight battery power seems like the only workable solution, unless your circuit can tolerate running at 10 volts or
so. Even then, the input side of the regulator ought to have a few thousand microfarads of low-ESR caps in parallel with the battery.1 ohm is pretty terrible for a capacitor, I think; a regulated supply
will easily have an output impedance in the low milliohm range and
the Jung regulator can be down in the low micro-ohm range.
