Jon Risch...Can your DIY Acoustic Treatments help my room?

209.240.200.81

Jon and others,My system is driving me NUTS and I think it's the room.I have what would be considered by most a very laid-back, forgiving system.CJ tubes,Vandersteen speakers, etc. The problem is that I can't listen at SPLs above 80 dB.(80 is just ok,music with peaks of 85 is fatiguing and annoying, and 90 dB peaks are downright painful). If I play music having peaks below 85,it is lifeless.I have a too-small room(11x14) that is extremely rigid--8" thick solid logs on 3 sides.I think the bothersome frequencies are centered around 800 Hz. or so.If I listen to a recording of 800 Hz warble tones,I get the "pain" that I don't hear at other frequencies.Voices, when they hit peaks at the above mentioned levels cause the problem.
Will room treatment ameliorate this and if so,what is the best way to proceed?Or do you have other suggestions? I've tried everything else(cables, various tubes, speaker placement,ad nauseum). Many thaks for any help!!! Fred Rule
