You may find the passive low level filter to be purer. The quality of the capacitor is critical here. I've been playing with comparisons between a quality 4th order electronic crossover on high pass and a passive low level. With the drivers/horns I'm using I'll take the passive low level hands down. You must keep in mind you are talking about direct radiators.. not horns. I am also utilizing the natural roll off of the wave guide or horn, with your drivers the results will be very different.The Marchand XM-1 is a good inexpensive place to start experimenting with an active crossover.
