The cardas stuff is very nice, but is the devil to work with. The individual strands of wire are coated with an enamel like stuff that must be melted away before it will solder. This is very tuff even with a hot iron. Most suggest dipping in a solder pot which melts this stuff off and tins them at the same time. If you know exact lenghts you need, I believe micheal Percy makes it available in lenghts that are pre-dipped. I would use high quality copper with teflon insulation in about 22 ga. or there abouts. Silver is nice also and is available from percy and others. After spending tons of money on various cables and wires, I finally got over this "latest
wire sickness" and am perfectly comfortable with just good quality copper. Don't scrimp on the insulation, oinsist on teflon. Whether or not it sounds better is debatable, but it makes soldering much easier as it doesn't melt away, even if you touch it with your iron.
May your fingers heal quickly.
