Andrew,this is strange stuff.
In the David/Jericho speaker system that I have at the moment, the Focals sound quite perfect. (http://www.users.nac.net/markowitzgd/diyzone.html, by Thorsten)
Cdplayer and amps, cables can also add to the brightness of a tweeter
