Sounds to me like your tweeter is attempting to self distruct....Check the Xo frequency - at a guess with the titanium dome (and the other 'crackling' ones) the Xo frequency is below the drivers Fo... a baaaaad situation (the crackling you hear is the voicecoil hammering into the magnet structure.... :-( )
So, check there first..
