Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

APM and others,I've have not built the tweak yet but do
have experience with EMI/RFI filtering. From all the posts I cannot ferret out the "Reasonable" explanations for the APM function so I request someone post or send me the
best explanations so far.I was wondering if the tweak is really just creating
a tuned stub filter. Even though there is no current flowing
thru the wires, each of the ferrites is probably acting like
a tuned stub antenna with a resonant frequency somewhere
between 1 and 500 MHZ (i.e. I have no idea where). The filter
absorbs high frequency energy (converted to heat in the ferrite,
but not enough to get hot.)There may even be some coupling between the H and N, creating
a common mode filter effect, which would get stronger
if the ferrites are moved together. I'd be the main effect
is single ended though.Has anyone measured one of these on an LCR meter, or better yet,
swept it on a network analyzer?FWIW, it would be much better if folks would use KNOWN magnetic
materials rather (from TDK, or the Fair-rite corp or Panasonic)
than the radio shack stuff. Then we would know what we are
working with....
