Bart, it could be this is acting as an antenna and affecting RF fields in its vicinity. Sounds a bit far fetched I know, but I've seen this many times on a much larger scale. If you take one of those portable style fluro tubes and place it next to even a relatively low power transmitter (say an AM CB radio's for example) you will see it light up. Indeed at the transmitter stations, the fluro lights are wired, but can't be turned off! Many years ago I heard one local (AM) radio station was investigation rather strange anomalies in its propagation pattern. It turned out that one rather enterprising resident who lived very close to the transmitter had run a large amount of wire around his house and tuned the resulting antenna to the radio station's frequency, using the power for running domestic appliances! Don't know is it's a true story but gave us a chuckle at the time (hey us Aussies will do ANYTHING to somehow scam something for nothing!!)
