Well there are generally 2 types of phono cartridges (there are a few others but we don't have to discuss them) Moving magnet and moving coil. Moving coil phono cartridges require more preamplification than moving magnet phono cartridges. That could be the source of your problem. Otherwise you should check the continuity of your tonearm wires and connectors. Or get a technician to examine your turntable and phono cartridge.
