Applying the theories behind the design of the Symposium products, it would seem any rubber material placed between the top-loading weight and the component would intensely reflect vibrations generated by the component BACK into the component.According to Symposium's theories, a bicycle tire would only be useful for isolating the component from low frequency vibrations, and it seems unlikely that the top=loading mass would be generating any of these.
Following these theories, hard material would be more appropriate for conducting vibrations upwards to the mass-loading material, to be dissipated by the sand or lead bearings.
Symposium's theories aside, I'd be curious to find out if the tire between the component and the top=mass works well.
