Go for it, you have nothing to loose except a half sheet of MDF which should cost you about 10.00. Including the cost of veneer, you should be able to construct the cabinets for under 100.00. I modified mine by making the sound board (the front panel which holds the speakers) 1-1/4 inches thick instead of the 3/4 inch called for.
The hardest part of the job is cutting the inlays for the speakers, but if you have access to a router, it should be no problem. Wiring is simple and the kit even comes with a pictorial diagram of the crossover which shows you where to attach the wires.
There is one problem I had with the woofer and on which others have also commented. The terminals on the woofer are made of copper, which I'm sure sounds better than steel or brass. When I hooked up the speakers I used quick disconnects to slide over the spades on the woofer. I did this to facilitate removal and attachment of the wires when I removed the speakers from the cabinet (many times) during the initial setup. I wired the speakers with wire that was rather stiff (3 20ga solid wires per pole). When pulling the speakers out of the cabinet, the stiff wire bent one of the terminals causing the copper to fatigue and eventually the terminal broke off. Frank of speaker city was great about providing me with a new set of terminals. I ended up re wiring the woofers with a piece of Monster 14 ga stranded wire and have not had any more problem. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of.I have the Joseph RM50Si's and I like them very much. They have a warm to neutral tonal balance and a somewhat laid back presentation. Their bass performance is to die for. Jeff Joseph indeed builds some great speakers and is very responsive and helpful to his customers. They're not for everybody, but you should try to hear them if you're in the market for speakers.
