Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

Hi,I have read the posts where you and others have built versions of the Speaker City Scanspeak 7's. I am considering buying either these or the Borealis from North Creek, cabinets and all. Since you have had experience with the 7's (or your versions of them), I was hoping you might offer some advice.
Would the Borealis necessarily produce more bass than the Scan-7's due to a larger enclosure? What might be some other audible differences related to cabinet size or design?
The North Creek web site describes the crossovers employed in their speakers. They would seem to a novice such as myselt to be of very good quality. The Speaker City web site doesn't give much info. regarding their crossovers. North Creek apparently uses an acoustic 18db slope, whereas I have been told by Speaker City that the one used in the Scan-7 is closer to a 24db L-W design. What might be the significance, if any, between these crossover differences?
BTW, my listening room is 15'x15'x8' (WxDxH), with carpet, a sofa, chair, and bookshelf. My listening position is about 12' away. I like to listen mostly at low SPL's. My taste in music is somewhat eclectic, I guess: female vocals, jazz, new age, and some that I call "mood music" (Morcheeba, Moon Safari, Pink Floyd, Massive Attack).
I would really appreciate your comments and/or suggestions.
Thanks,
Frank
