I know that there is enough power to supply the +/-15V or +/-12V voltage regulators, because this particular mod has been done before and my research has indicated that the mod requires no other changes to the system. I understand and appreciate the benefits of an adjustable voltage regulator, but for this application, I am going to seek out a fixed voltage unit.Victor, thanks for the input about the soldering iron. I am accustomed to working with the 40W iron and I know that if the tip is clean and tinned well, it works very quickly. If the point is small enough, I might try to use it first. I also have a heatsink (hemostat actually - Wife is an RN)for protecting sensitive components. I think that you probably saved me a few bucks and some headaches. I appreciate it.
