Unless you need a gap, the toroidal will be superior in every respect in my book.The last time I used the double-C was about twenty some years ago and I never looked back. In reality the C or double C is not much more than the "economy toroid". They are far easier to wind and are, therefore, less expensive, albeit at some loss of performance. They are more manufacturable than the toroids, therefore their widespread use in some parts of the world. Their leakage inductance is a lot higher, making them far more removed from the ideal transformer model than the toroids.
But that is just me, of course.
