Attn Jon Risch - Improving Bass on Maggies with Baffles

63.74.1.3

Maggie 1.6's have about 4 inches of frame on either side of the tweeter and bass panels which seemingly do nothing. I now suspect the 4 inches of baffle are an important part of allowing the bass panel front and rear waves not to collaspse into one another around the vertical edge. The front and rear waves are of course in opposite phase and mutually cancelling. This may explain why the narrow MG 10 lack bass compared to the MG 12

The bass panel is 8.5 inches wide and has a 4 inch baffle on one side and and effective 6.5 inch baffle on the tweeter side. How large a baffle does it make sense to add to each side to further reduce the front wave from collaspsing into the back wave ?

Does angling the baffles backwards increase effectiveness by confining the rear wave into a narrower area which allows the front wave to propagate better ?

Does it make sense to have small holes / openings in the baffles to make the baffles some what transparent to high frequencies bouncing off the rear listening room wall ?
