...but you surely should look at your system and find out where the problem is. I say "problem" because when you force your preamp to attenuate the signal many, many times, you are damaging that fragile signal.

Somewhere in your system there is too much gain. So you are forced to amplify - divide - amplify - divide. Every time you divide like that you pick up noise and garbage.

So try to find the real cause instead of applying a band-aid to a deep wound. Sometimes components have gain switches.
