Re: DEDICATED POWER LINES AND GROUNDING ...

206.32.53.10

Hi Paul - Thank you so much for all your advice. I am a complete novice when it comes to these kind of things - and I don't think I would ever attempt any of this myself (i.e. I'd have an electrician do it). I have read many postings on grounding for several months. And I just get more and more confused. One of the main controveries seems to be about the wisdom of using more than one grounding rod, i.e. one for audio ciruits in addition to one for the rest of the house. I have read posts from people who sound like they know what they're talking about (although I wouldn't really know) say that separate rods are a bad idea, since the result is the possibility of different potential. I try to read between the lines, but it appears what is being said is that the problem with different potential is not just sonic - that's it's, in fact, dangerous. Could you comment on this? I would love to have a separate ground for just audio. But I certainly don't want to do something stupid. Some of these posts have said to be sure to tie the two rods together. Doug Blackburn over at Soundstage just yesterday posted a message in which he said "strapping two rods together is even more likely to lead to ground loop hum..." Arrrgh! This is sometimes so frustrating. Can you help? Thank you. By the way: I know this may be a silly question, but where would a separate ground wire(s) for audio connect at the other end from the rod? Does it go to the panel - or does it connect directly to the outlets used for audio.
