Even without opening it up and changing anything, there's a lot you can do.In my experience, CD players benefit significantly from isolation. Try sticking some Vibrapods under it, or build yourself some form of isolation platform (see thread below on DIY Symposium shelf, for instance), or both.
You can also try treating the lid and underneath the chassis with the tar damping sheets used for deadening auto panels, or with Cromolyn but that's expensive though it's very effective.
If you've got an unused digital out, you can try terminating it with a 75 ohm load. Radio Shack make an RCA to F connecter and a 75 ohm F termination. Screw them together and plug the finished product into the digital out jack.
That's about the limit of my surgery since I couldn't solder to save my life and can't tell a resistor from a capacitor unless they're labelled - then I wouldn't know what to do with them. I can tell you that just doing the above can transform the sound of your player, and the isolation won't go astray when you eventually replace the existing player with a new source.
