Hey stan, most isolation xfmrs block out hi freq noise( they really start to attenuate above 100khz) but don't do a terrific job at audible freq. The noise sniffer picks noise on your AC line that is in the audible region. This noise is removed with capacitors placed accross the hot-n,n-gnd. and hot-gnd. .Jon Risch has a very good filter project at his web site.
