1. When establishing a mechanical conenction between the part and the board, am I correct in assuming that you first make a 90 degree bend
in the lead, insert the component into the board and then use pliers to bend the leads outward for mechanical fit?Quest: yes, sort of. The reason for bending the legs/leads is to mechanically secure the poarts on the board temporarily so that when you filp your board bottom-up it won't fall off.
2. How high off the board should a component be. I know hot parts should be 1/4inch off the board, but what about others? Does it matter?[Quest]: No, as long as you don't short you PCB board's copper clad side to the metal chassis or so it will be alright.
