Both the Eidolon and Eidolon Diamond need many hours of break-in. They should not even be listened to with less than 300 hours at loud to moderate SPL's. They will continue to improve significantly up to 800 hours. I have found many variables in dealer's showrooms that can adversely affect the performance of these extraordinary loudspeakers. FYI, Avalon has sold 500+ pairs of Eidolons, this is extraordinary given their retail price (initially $19,500 in a standard finish and now around $21,500). Avalon has only made around 20-25 pairs of the Eidolon Diamond. They are extraordinary, especially given the size of the cabinet which is quite modest by high end standards. They also work well in relatively small rooms- I am not sure you could say the same about the Rockports.
