The empty space can be filled with sand. This kills cabinet resonance, tightens bass, and improves imaging. It is very highly recommended. If you think they are good now, wait until they are sand filled!!! Best of all the sand only costs a few bucks. You must use dried sand (no moisture).

Side effect of the sand is that they become very heavy, and much more difficult to knock over (kids, partys etc.)
