E-stat,
yeah I am not a solid state guy, but I am thinking perhaps the only component in this plate amp that could "wear" out is the caps, I just wasn't sure if bad caps could make a sound like this. If there are not many, I could potentially replace all of them, rule out each one as I replace perhaps.
