Actually, I would prefer "long wall" placement with the KEFs - as long as they were not more than 7 or 8 feet apart. Especially if they were only 2.5 feet out from the wall behind...The KEF "Uni-Q" single driver radiates sound evenly in all directions (except backwards, of course). That type of speaker sounds good with a lot of room on the sides, avoiding early side wall reflections (with bass reinforcement supplied by the wall behind, instead of the side walls).
In such a long wall placement scenario, I'd be tempted to place them closer than 2.5 away from the wall behind in order to "warm up" the sound...
