We made a "portable subwoofer" approaching 20 years ago at work for some military purpose, for some use in a desert that they wouldn't explain.
This was difficult to build and we never found out what it was for exactly.
A suspected use was an "acoustic toilet plunger" for caves but that's a guess as they would not tell me even through i had to design it.
