I have not heard the Ascendant. The difference in perspective between the classic series and the current Eidelon/Opus is one of being at the concert-venue (classic) and having the musicians in your room (Eidelon/Opus).
The new versions are more refined, being "perfected" over the classics.
My audition of the Opus Ceramic using an Accuphase E-550/AD-2800 with a Michelle Gyro-Dec SE (steel platter), SME309 and a Shelter 91x was nothing short of amazing!
The Eidelon/Opus series is so good that people are literally unprepared for the experience. The sound is overwelmingly real and present.
