made some excellent monitors, including the L-810 (which I've owned)and they can be had for well under 800.00 - clean and tight bass, though they were "bookshelve" speakers (need quality stands). Stereophile has been reviewing reasonably priced speakers for the past few years, and recently the new Monitor Audio Silver RS6 received a great review - below is a link to a pair of Monitor Audio Silver S8s on Audiogon.
