I have a week old pair of Silver Iris drivers, which cost $300, and they sound amazing. Not just for the $, but in a true-to-life 3-D craziness sort of way. they are amazingly accurate, faster than panel speakers and put out a huge life-sized soundstage.You wouldn't need the subs either, these suckers go low.
With baffles and simple materials like felt you're lookin' at under $500 for one of the best performing speaker systems out there...
speed, accuracy & musicality can be had for way less than $800.
