Years ago there was a story going around of a disco in NYC that hung several pairs of Maggies from the ceiling, parallel to the dance floor. Word was that impact was very dynamic.Once I took a pair of SMGs in trade on other gear. They had EYE hooks screwed into the top of the frame. I ask how well this worked and the owner said "just fine". I didn't hear them that way so cannot comment.
All this is to say you are not the first to consider hanging. Think the suggestion of supporting on milk crates or some other open, solid device for a trial is a good one.
