I have the smaller on-wall Maggies and like them very much when paired with an accurate subwoofer that can go rather high.You could try placing the 1.6s on milkcrates and put them on the wall just to see. It might be horrible. It might be good. I haven't tried it but another option for you are the MC1 on-wall Maggies and a sub.
Note that the 1.6s are a clear upgrade from the MC1 on their own but the addition of a subwoofer steers the nod towards the on wall ones.
Note, additionally, that I am lucky in that I have thick heavy drapes flanking a narrow deep window between my on-wall Maggies. I am spared some of the early reflections due to this which helps the sound.
