Re: Can a 21w SET bring out the best of Merlin TSM ?

joseph,
a newer pair of tsms, either the mm/mme or mx/mxe will be the most responsive and room filling of them all. now, 20 watts is a personal choice and i orginally mentioned 30 watts as a guide in the days when lower powered tube amps were not as good sounding as they are now. also a lower powered tube amp compared to the same power in ss, the tube may sound more robust to you, they usually do to me. i use a 20 watt class a, ss amp in my living room on a pair of tsm mxes and it is more than enough for me and my wife...lol! and at my plant i have a 22.5 watt class a tube amp on the tsms playing in an 8000 cubic foot room and it is again, more than enough for me. BUT, i am not you and this may be personal.
a more finessed and lower powered amp can do wonders on the tsm if you are not trying to knock the walls down. the only concern is complex material at loud levels. most middle of the road music and jazz it should be fine, imho.
regards,
bobby at merlin
