The S5e is a true high-end speaker. The overall sound quality and the speaker's ability to communicate the meaning of the music is comparable to many speakers up to around $5-10k.I consider them to be more "monitors with built in stands" than true full range speakers, however. In the two rooms I tried them in, the bass is more of the rolling thunder variety than fast-n-tight. Since bass reproduction is dependent on both the speakers and the room, which together make up the "bass system", YMMV.
I now have them in my HT system, rear ports plugged, with two powered subs. The result? GREAT sound!
