PSB's G-Design series seems to replace their older well-regarded Stratus Series and presumably are an improvement. The GT1 is right on your price point.http://www.psbspeakers.com/product.php?pId=75&sId=2
I have not heard the Paradigm Reference Series Version 4 speakers, but the Studio 60 should be within you price range. The V. 4 speakers are presumably improved over the V. 3 ones which I thought were a bit bright in the lower treble for my taste.
The Energy C-Series is also quite good but I'm not very familiar with the rest of their line.
