I'm sorry, but what you say is incorrect.

To quote:

"The "why" for biwiring is by having the bass and the mid/treble signals run through separate cables, the higher current of the bass will not modulate the lower current mid/treble signal. "

This is often stated, but not correct all the same. Wires, unless they have something pathologically wrong with them or are operating way out of typical audio frequencies, are extremely linear devices. The signals going through them into are a sum of many frequency components that add exceedingly linearly to result in one final waveform. Low frequencies in the same wire cannot modulate high frequencies or vice versa. That said, that does not mean that bi-wiring cannot have any benefit. You can find a number of detailed circuit anaylses of the behavior of a bi-wired system compared to a single wire. Since wires don't have zero impedance, there is a difference, but it is very small. Whether you can hear this difference can depend on the particular wires, speakers, and person involved.

There is a great deal of nonsense about bi-wiring on the web, but there is also some sensible reasoning. I could well have misterpreted your comments by what you mean by "modulate." Frequency modulation won't happen, but a tremendous current drain by the bass driver could in some circumstances have some negative effects on the treble signal current, as shown by some of the anaylses. The lower the impedance of the wires, the less this effect. The most detailed circuit analyses I have seen conclude you can always do as well with a single wire if you use one of low enough gauge. In the limit of zero impedance of speaker wires, bi-wiring has no effect, which should be obvious by thinking about it for a bit.

All that said, I do bi-wire my speakers because I think they sound a bit better that way, though not because of the explanation given by the manufacturer in the manual that came with them

Joe
