An active speaker won't sound as good as a passive one with better overall design, better drivers, etc. I love the tricks my Meridian M2 active speakers could play - and its Kef drivers were very good. But when I heard a pair of Linn Isobariks, I heard better speakers overall. That's too limited an experience to draw general conclusions from, I know. So let's see what others say.
