...the constant repetition is annoying. In some cases the same commercial is played twice during one break. Sometimes they're played back-to-back. Who thinks this stuff up? Sometimes cable companies seem to be the ones scheduling what commercials run on certain programs, at other times it's obviously networks. Whoever it is, I guess it's selling products in any case.I have no gripe against songwriters & musicians being paid for their work through its use in commercials. Densmore's choice is all fine and well too, but I think his schtick about 'integrity' and how he won't 'sell out' because 'Jim' would never have done so is silly. Like he knows the guy would've never ever changed his mind as he grew older if he had lived. But it's his call to make, so while I understand Manzarek & whoever being irritated by his refusal to allow it, it also makes sense that whatever terms the band as a unit agreed to way back when remain in place & are adhered to.
When the Who first sold My Generation or whichever toon for ads 20 years ago, Townshend had an interviewer complain that the ads were interfering with his enjoyment of Townshend's music as he'd done for so many years. Townshend's reply was to suggest that the guy's pereptions of his music must be pretty shallow if he'd allow an advertisement to ruin the song for him in that way.
