Ha!

I'm not a big fan of say, Dave Matthews, so not only would I refrain from listening to him, I would certainly refrain from posting anything like a review, or even my casual thoughts on a recording of his as my predisposed prejudice would only influence a mostly negative communication. So I wouldn't toss on a DM recording, and toss out a "grade".

Is that a C+ by LL standards (relevent) or a C+ by your standards (irrelevent, as you're not a big fan)?

That said, I AM a BIG fan of Los Lobos, and "The Town and the City" is IN MY OPINION (and in a mini review posted here several weeks ago...) MOST EXCELLENT.

IF you WERE much of a fan (which begs the question WHY do you even have an advance copy of it?), you'd recognize much of the "Kind of cool, harder edged rock" and the various sonic gymnastics from their fine recordings dating back to 1989 and KIKO; and especially prominent on "This Time", "Colossal Head" and the Latin Playbys' CDs.

Also, the more you listen to this recording the more you absorb and appreciate how the songs interconnect in this concept recording (did you even "get" that aspect of it? What's the connecting topic? Too subtle for you?) the better it becomes, the more satisfying the songs are.

Well, you're probably what LL refer to as a "La Bamba" guy anyway, which means you're limited to the grand and rich tapestry of sonic craft and songwriting they offer, and if they play "La Bamba", then they've accomplished all you've expected of them.

I will repeat: as a BIG Los Lobos fan: "The Town and the City" is one of their all time strongest outings, and after listening to it a few times, the songs will be "replaying" in your head and in your heart. A friend of mine - a big LL fan, upon the first couple listens said it didn't do it for him. Two weeks later he was practicaly raving abut how great it is. IMO It's a superb recording. A

Too bad it didn't do it for ya!

This of course does not help frozen food fans...
