I have recently picked up "Neighbourhood" by Manu Katche and the two releases by the Tord Gustavsen (sp?) trio. Very nice mellow jazz but with a level of complexity that place them well beyond the "smooth-crap" catagory.
"Melodic tapestry" is a good descriptor for these works.
