Ah, San Francisco's Chinatown. In the late-80s, some of my friends, including my future wife, lived there.
I *think* it was early 1988. I saw Bay Area rock band Vicious Rumors, at The Stone, which was located just outside of Chinatown, on Broadway and Montgomery.
35 years ago, I met up with my future wife, traversed Portsmouth Square, ate dim sum. We then made our way to the iconic Tower Records, which used to be on Jones & Columbus. There, I bought Vicious Rumors' then-new eponymous album. It ended with "Axe And Smash." Although my wife respected this fan favorite, she felt it was in no man's land. You see, she either wanted something lighter, like glam metal; or something heavier, like thrash. That's kind of why Vicious Rumors played to smaller crowds, during the 1990s. Their current lineup has, in many ways, a more dedicated fan base. But do go back to the 1990 era, and fish out "Axe And Smash."
