35 years ago, as the Winter 1990 quarter was winding down, Santa Cruz's weather was dry, but not yet hot enough, to enjoy the beaches. My friends talked about what they'd do over the approaching spring break. I would go home to San Francisco, and enter "high-end audio."
Tangier's "Southbound Train," caused Lorraine (right) to remark that that kind of music was a good year or two too late. But it caused her to think about getting home to Los Angeles. She could indeed take a "southbound train," from San Jose.
Lorraine said that, although Greyhound buses were economical, because they stopped so frequently, they took forever, to get to L.A. Taking Amtrak wasn't exactly fast, but could get her to L.A. She also mentioned that the Coast Starlight made it possible to visit friends at Cal Poly SLO, UC Santa Barbara, and UCLA (above).
As for Tangier's "Southbound Train," it typically appears on internet or satellite radio. Because Tangier were too late for the late-1980s glam metal, they never made it big.
