Sorry, we don't have any photos from 1985. but 40 years ago, while an 8th grader at Presidio Middle School, I could venture to Baker Beach (above). There, my classmates learned that the north end of Baker Beach was clothing-optional.
Someone had Phil Collins' No Jacket Required on cassette. And he title kind of seemed appropriate, when you were at a clothing-optional beach. Anyway, we loved Collins' "Only You And I Know," and wondered why it was not promoted. And after that, it was largely forgotten.
Five years later, sometime in 1990, one of my dormmies signaled to hit the Santa Cruz beaches. As we lay on the dark-colored sands, of course we talked about music. Interestingly, she brought up Collins' "Only You And I Know," and thought it was criminal, that it wasn't well-known.
Walkman in tow, that same dormmie loved kicking off a lap around UCSC's Great Meadow, by kicking up her feet to "Only You And I Know."
I now know a small number of UCSC undergrads. Listening to Collins' "Only You And I Know" makes working out at the gym fun. But instead of the treadmill and stair-climber, take advantage of the Santa Cruz terrain and environment. Bounce along to "Only You And I Know," and jog and hike outdoors!
